Rod End Supply Night at I-35 Speedway 8/26/2017

E-Modified would kick off the night of great racing action heat winner Chris Mercer #13 would lead the field of competitors to green. Mercer would take the lead early and find the fast way around the track holding off all competitors as the race progressed. A late race yellow would bunch the field as other heat winner J J Baumli #46 worked his way through traffic to challenge for the front. On the ensuing restart Mercer would get a great jump and never look back claiming his third win of 2017 at I-35 Speedway. Baumli would place second with Josh Adkins #91J impressing with a close third on the night. Fourth would see the always fast point leader Randy Smith Jr #75X with Jim Masoner #66X ending the feature fifth place.

Grand National would get fast and exciting as heat winner Mike Jones #5 would take the lead and set a blistering pace on the 3/8th mile speedway. Jones would run low and Travis Walker #71 would use the high line and work several laps for a way around Jones. Walker would clear the #5 car and hold off a late race charge by second place finisher Chad Fuller #0R to pick up the feature win and celebrate in McCarthy Auto Group Winners Circle. Jones would end the night with a solid third place showing with John Brown #36J placing fourth. Anthony Logston #98 would round out the night’s top five positions. Other heat race winner was Donnie Brown #26 who is also the Grand National point leader.

Midwest Lightning Sprints would see a happy victory lane as Mark Billings would park #51 under the winner’s banner. Billings would do battle every lap with the always fast #2 of Jason Billups who would place second with Tom Brown #B20 a very close and impressive third. Fourth would see heat winner #01 Bobby Layne with Ryan Secrest #94 notching a top five finish.

Pure Stock would see father and son on the front row as heat winner C J Turner #91 and Jack Turner #87 would lead the field to the green flag. C J Turner would take the lead early from dear old dad as they raced side by side on lap number one and gradually pull away. As the laps wound down the white flag was shown only to see a yellow flag bunch the field. C J Turner would handle the restart like a seasoned pro and lead the last laps closing the deal for his first ever feature win. Dad, Jack Turner would come home second and celebrate together in McCarthy Auto Group Winners Circle with his son sharing a special night of racing. Kerry Ayers #99A would be in the hunt all night placing third with current point leader and other heat winner Cletus Murray #21M racing his way to fourth. Last week’s feature winner Cody King #29, who would start tenth on the field, would march through the pack to place a solid fifth place.

Sport Compact would also see first time winner as Alvin Cooney #69C would win both heat race and feature on this night of competition. Rocky Rhodes #8 would challenge Cooney early but to no avail and have to settle for second on this night of competition. Isaiha Penton #8P would finish third, Russell Houston #542 would be fourth and Dakota Girard #0 fifth.

USRA B-Modified would see the best of the best take the track and entertain as only they can. Randy Ainsworth #57 would take the lead until Shadren Turner #17T would charge by on the inside to take the front. Turner would use the high line to perfection and lead the remainder of the laps and pick up the win. Turner would celebrate his second win in as many nights as he celebrated in victory lane. Ainsworth would place second with a hard charging Ed Noll #15 third. Daniel Harris #07 would have a good feature race ending the night fourth with heat winner Austin Kaplan #1 rounding out the night’s top five. Other heat winner was Mitch Booher #22B.

USRA Stock Cars would be low in number but high in quality as Dean Wray #77 and heat winner Gary Donaldson #28D would battle it out for the front on the start. Wray would work the inside until he would clear Donaldson and never look back picking up the feature win. Jon Boller Jr #20X would find the fast way around the track and work his way past Donaldson to place second moving Donaldson to finish third. Jay Barnes #19 would recover from an early race spin cycle to place fourth with the ever present Mich Ross #34X ending the race fifth.

High Flying, Fire Breathing, Alcohol Drinking USRA Modifieds would take to the track next for an exciting twenty lap feature. Heat winner Dennis Elliott #29 would use a front row starting spot to take the front and lead every on his way to victory lane. The always fast Derrick Hicks #78 would challenge Elliott every lap but have to settle for second as Elliott would claim the win. Other heat winner Clay Hale #22H continues to impress as he would place third with Logan Robertson #23 a very close fourth place showing. John Hanson driving the #99J car would impress with a solid fifth place ending the night of great racing action.
