Tonight we celebrated the future racers of I-35 Speedway with a lot of giveaways, foot races and trophy presentations for Drew F. Davis Attorney and Counselor at Law night.

The winners of the prizes were Cale Weller, Devin Ward, Clayton Raymo, Karsyn Reber, Steven Spain, Leyton Costner, Austin Ray, Gavin Power, Bostin Spencer, Mike Taylor, Caydin Clark, Nate Cooper, Hannah Glass, Chellsie Meyers, Carissa Pittsenbarger, Skye Uthe, Paityn Heckman, Autumn Manley, Brianna Armstrong, Isabelle Potts, Kinsley Johnson, Alexis Potts, and Chaylle Meyers.

Jeff Dixon (Jamesport, MO) picked up his first win of 2012 getting a run on race leader Jon Boller III (St. Joseph, MO) halfway through the IMCA Stock Car feature and had to hold off the winningest driver in the class to do it. Dixon held off Dean Wray (Jamesport, MO) at the line for a very popular win. Wray finished second, points leader Jon Boller Jr. (St. Joseph, MO), who battled for the lead also finished third, Greg Keuhn (Trenton, MO) was fourth and John Crews (Polo, Mo) rebounded after and early spin to finish fifth. Dean Wray gained seven spots to win the hard charger award.

Last week Chad Clancy stepped back behind the wheel of the Grand National car he had driven to numerous wins. Tonight he was behind the wheel again and it looked like he was on his way to another win before a caution came out and bunched the field back up, that caution gave seven time winner Bud Wilson what he needed to make his win total eight. Wilson (Trenton, MO) got by Clancy to win for the eighth time in 2012. Clancy (Smithville, MO) came home second, Thomas Roberts (Kidder, MO) was third, Austin Johnson (Kansas City, MO) was fourth and Jim Peeler (Milan, MO) was fifth. Bud Wilson won his ninth hard charger in a row.

Phil Heavelow (Buckner, MO) dominated the Liquid and Powdercoat finishes of Kansas City Midwest Lightning Sprints. Heavelow was followed across the line Two-time feature winner at I-35 Speedway Tom Brown (Lincoln, NE), Jon Lane (Kansas City, MO) was third, Ken Billings (Kansas City, MO) was fourth and Rick Baxter (Kansas City, MO) came home fifth.

Brad Whitney (Trenton, MO) won his second IMCA Sport Mod feature of 2012 getting by race leader Chris Shiflett on the last corner. Shiflett inherited the lead when Mike Tanner had a mechanical failure. Shiflett would lead the next eight laps until his car picked up a push on the last lap and Whitney was able to sneak by on the inside for the win. Shiflett (Meadville, MO) finished second, Doug Keller (St. Joseph, MO) was third, point's leader Randy Ainsworth (Excelsior Springs, MO) was fourth and Jeremy Pittsenbarger (Cameron, MO) was fifth. Doug Keller picked up the hard charger award.

Eric Stanton had his winning streak snapped in the IMCA Hobby Stocks tonight, Stanton had his car back out for the first time since he rolled in a few months ago and he would be plagued by ignition problems. Alex Anderson (Spickard, MO) rolled to his second career win getting by race leader Anthony Fletchall close to halfway. Lee Farmer (Bethany, MO) gave chase but ran out of laps once he got into second. Fletchall (Grant City, MO) came home with a third place finish, Andrew Hustead (Rutledge, MO) was fourth and Billie Hoover (Stewartsville, MO) was fifth. Lee Farmer won the hard charger award.

Modified points leader Cory Wray (Jamesport, MO) got his second win of the season after a great battle with Blake Peeler. From the drop of the green flag it looked like Steven Glenn was the man to beat until he got a little loose entering the corner opening up an advantage for Peeler and Wray. Seventeen straight laps of green flag action ensued before the first caution would bunch the field back up. Wray and Peeler ran side by side for numerous laps before Wray eventually pulled away. Jason Estes (Winston, MO) made a last lap pass for the second position, Blake Peeler (Trimble, MO) was third, Buz Kaster (Kansas City, KS) was fourth and Steven Glenn (Hamilton, MO) was fifth. Cory Wray also won the hard charger award.

The points races are really starting to take shape and the action continues to heat up at I-35 Speedway. Join us next week for Coca Cola night at I-35 and don't forget to try one of our famous tenderloins. The Turn One Trackside Bar and Grill will be open for dinner starting Friday, August 17th at 5:00pm. They have a full menu and will be serving dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings all year round!
