BORDER WAR EXPANDING AT LAKESIDE AND I-35 SPEEDWAYS
I-35 and Lakeside Speedways worked together in 2009 to create the Border War in the Grand National class with an extra incentive of winning at one track followed by a win at the other track leading to a bonus. During the recently completed season the two owners, Mike Johnson (I-35) and Marc Olson (Lakeside), increased the bonus to $250. The Grand National Border War “Game On” will continue in 2010 with the same rules for both tracks and expanded incentives to race both tracks.
As both tracks are releasing their non sanctioned rules for 2010, Owners Olson and Johnson are at it again, introducing the Stock Car Border War Challenge for 2010. This challenge allows the Lakeside Factory Stocks and I-35 Speedway Stock Car class to compete with each other at either of the racetracks without making wholesale rule changes. I-35 Speedway Stock Cars will no longer carry the IMCA sanction. Johnson and Olson’s goal was to allow those who desire to travel the opportunity to race at either track without significantly increasing the cost, yet provide a fair playing field for everyone. Realizing not everyone travels each track has released separate rules using the Stock Car Border War rules as the equalizer. Other competitors from other local tracks will be allowed to compete provided they comply with the Stock Car Border War Challenge rules.
Additionally, the Grand National Border War “Game On” has additional benefits besides just winning at each track back to back. Olson and Johnson advise stay tuned for even more Border War announcements in the near future.
As a further compliment to the owners working together, Lakeside Speedway Competition Director J.D. Green will serve in the same capacity at I-35 Speedway in 2010, heading up the I-35 Speedway racing program. An I-35 Speedway rules and tech forum will be added to inthepits.net for questions and answers with the techman.
